Lyttleton and Sumner

Our first trip out on our own from Christchurch was over the Port Hills (to the south of the city) to check out the scenery! The motel was getting a bit too much and we really wanted to get out to see beyond the city! We drove through a suburb called Cashmere and within minutes we were climbing up along the winding roads, narrowly missing cyclists and runners until we finally reached the top. AND what a view, we looked back right across the city and right over the cantebury plains past rangiora and too the mountains beyond!

However this was nothing compared to the views that greeted us when we crossed over the brow of the hill and headed down towards lyttleton! It is stunning! We have posted the pictures. I hope you can get the colour of the sea as well, so clear and so green! Lyttleton itself was not much to look at but the villages on the way were lovely, some amazing houses!

We stopped in Sumner to have a wander along the beach (the beach in the photos!) and walked through "shag rock" to be greeted on the other side by a beach volleyball league. Beck Nick, we thought of you, although it was on a real beach! Sumner is gorgeous and a lovely place to visit. It would be an awesome place to live but not for us at the mo! We don't fancy the commute!

Hope you enjoy the photos....click here!
