We have had yet another busy few weeks! The weather has turned now are we are really seeing winter set in! Autumn is short lived here! We managed to get to the penultimate Crusaders game with H&P and Helens brother and girlfriend who were passing through! We were expecting a FREEZING evening however it turned out to be really warm and we looked somewhat over dressed! Thankfully the crusaders won and went on to win the final! Go Crusaders!

Dan's birthday again fell on Queen's birthday weekend and so we went away to celebrate (and also max the free days holiday as it the last stat day through til October! So we headed of woth Helen and Paul, our outdoor buddies to Mt Cook to take in the mountains! Tekapo, looked very still early in the morning as we passed through! We managed an early morning start and were on the road by 7.45am! Miracle for Emma!

We hit the road to Mt Cook only to be delayed by the bank holiday traffic! Would you believe it!!
We started off gently! We had decided against camping and checked into the Hermitage. We didn't stay in the main hotel, but instead one of the chalets! It was brilliant and perfect for our requirements! We still got to have breakfast at the hotel and use all the facilities! The boys decided that early mornings were the way to go due to the endless buffet breakfast!! So we started off by walking the Hooker Valley. Rather different to the previous walk this way with Rob B in the scorching sunshine!! Mt Cook however still looked stunning!

Above at the Hooker glacier lake! Below, Dan and Paul trying to digest and ENORMOUS breakfast!!

Day two after brekkie! Helen and Emma proudly sponsored by Icebreaker!!

Our second day, Dan's birthday got off to a cracking start! Photo opportunities were taken to the max! After eating breakfast we returned to open cards and presents before the boys spent a while trying to decide on walks while the girls hoped they'd forget to take them with them! However we sucumbed and we headed off to climb to ref tarns! Quite a stroll, near vertically! The path is basically steps all the way up to the tarns, which were rather like puddles! We opted to keep on going up to the ridge line! THe views were wonderful, however the weather closed in and the rain started to pour! The boys ventured to the summit and the girls thought they would get back to the chalet! Hot tea and showers were far too tempting!!

When the boys reached the top it was no longer rain but snow! Apparently awesome!
Day three!! After spending the evening in the bar eating and drinking and playing cards we awoke again to beutiful blue clear skies! After checking out we ventured into the Tasman Valley to do a bit of exploring and it was just so awesome! The mountains were huge and the perspective somehow made them seem even bigger! We wandered round to the lake which was full of little bergs....really spectacular. You could hear the ice creaking and cracking and parts falling into the water! It was really something! Another AWESOME weekend!
