Spring, Skiing and Sonic Booms....

Firstly, the winter is over, spring is here AND IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!! Blossom on the trees, birds singing in the air, and meteors falling from the sky....yes you read it correctly the first time - meteor strikes Christchurch! But we are still alive, and as far as we know, so is everyone else in Christchurch - the only evidence was a sonic boom we all heard mid afternoon, that sounded like a bomb going off, and felt (the noise was loud enough to shake the buildings) like a minor earth tremor.

And that brings us nicely onto skiing - where soon we'll be skiing fast enough to cause our own sonic booms. Well, maybe on reflection, that is getting a little bit ahead of ourselves. However, we are converts to skiing after only one trip and will suffer from withdrawal symptoms in just a few weeks when the ski fields close for the summer. It has been great to get out and ski, being one of the things we wanted to try out whilst living in NZ, and it reminded us again of what an amazing country this is - ski fields an hour and a half one way, vineyards everywhere and the beach only 20 minutes away. There are still a few more weeks of the season to go, so we'll be packing in as much practice as we can to try and establish our "skills" before the season ends. After that, we'll just have to make do with the clear sunny days for the next few months.....life is tough sometimes.
