Engaging Tramps!

Well firstly tramps in NZ are Hikes and engaging refers to another bit of this story!! So that may clear that up! This weekend was a long one due to it being Canterbury's show day (local bank holiday!) so we took the opportunity again to get out of Christchurch. WE ventured with Helen and Paul and Caroline and Andrew to do the Cass Lagoon Saddle two day tramp! It was HARD work but VERY enjoyable with awesome scenery and the most amazing hut to stay in ovenight! Good job too as some of us were feeling a little jaded at the end of day one! The Hamilton Hut is also referred to as the Hamilton Hilton and we can no see why! None of us begrudged having to use 2 hut tickets each either i can assure you!
BUT the highlight of the weekend was the very well planned surprise engagement of our very good friends Helen and Paul who while dinner was being prepared snuck off to "take some photos" of the amazing location! When they I did not return I started to get a little suspicious and wispered to Dan "hey dan I wonder if they have gone off to get engaged?" To which he made no comment! Anyhoo, I wet out to go to the toilet and out popped H&P from round the hut with H sporting a gorgeous paua ring (apparently interim as THE ring is in prototype stage)! How jolly exciting! And then I found out Dan had known all along! Sneeky! He had to carry the secret champagne!!
So all in all it was a fab time, great company all along the way, amazing views, "fun" river crossings and very sore feet at the end! A very welcome tea and pint awaited us at the Bealey Hotel at the end of the day!The Happy trampers!

Caroline and Andrew (who also recently got engaged too-big congratualtions!)

The fantastic chef!

Celebrating the event!

Day two photos to follow tomorrow....for now we need to get some sleep in preparation for a trip to Hanmer Springs tomorrow! Ahhh, it is a hard life!
