Another Small Group Weekend

It was time again to say good bye to some more of our small group, Hana and Tane, who are heading back to Whangerei! But before they could leave we had to head out for another weekend away....somewhere they hadn't really been.......Akaroa! Yes we know we've been there a lot but it is just so lovely! And could we have picked a better weekend? It was scorching! We arrived to find that it was the Volunteer Fire Crew competition, which had various team competing for who could get the hose attached and functioning enough to knock an elevated metal disk over! Exciting stuff I tell you! But we soon found that shopping, mooching and a picnic were far more inviting!!We even managed to get in a swim in the harbour! Once we had convinced the campsite owner that although we were a big group, we wouldn't be getting plastered and disturbing the other campers, we set up camp and then had to spend the next hour recovering from heat exhaustion! There came the idea for the swim and VERY welcome it was too! Cold but you soon acclimatised! Not long though before we were heading up to the campsite again to enjoy dinner and then just chatting and hanging out until the sun went down, and the curfew was imposed! To be honest I think we were all pretty shattered! The following morning I thought we had awoken to dull skies, only to be greeted by blue skies sunshine and the need to apply factor 20 before breakfast time! Only in NZ eh?!
Okains Bay was calling and even thought the sea was twice as cold as the harbour in akaroa, we had a great time enjoying the (smallish) surf! Then the river and then digging holes so that we could soak in the small area of water that the tide had left behind, which had now become lovely and warm!
So as with most small group times, it centred around eating! We had lunch.......oodles of food! And then headed back to Christchurch! Great weekend! Great start to the summer!
